MOON BATH - A Self Care Ritual

A BATHING RENAISSANCE

I first came across the Moon Bath brand on a trip to America. I was initially drawn to their products because of their beautiful packaging. I soon realised they were so much more than a pretty face! I love the idea of putting everything down and taking some time for yourself. The idea of mindfully preparing a bath and relaxing in a beautiful blend of warm water sounds like such a treat to me. Moon Bath uses recycled material for its packaging and all its packaging is fully recyclable or compostable. The founders of the company, Dakota and Sierra are passionate about being responsible members of the global community and are more than just a business. Read on to find out how their products work and how their company really is helping to protect our beautiful planet.

Ayurveda is believed to be one of the oldest systems of healing on Earth and offers a rich and dynamic body of knowledge that cultivates balance and holistic wellness. It employs a wide array of lifestyle practices that maintain and improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual vitality. Ritual cleansing and purification in a salt water bath is recommended in Ayurveda to cleanse the energetic body and ensures physical, mental and spiritual balance.

Kept alive through many of the world’s cultural traditions, bathing is a deeply healing and sacred ritual that weaves together intentions, water therapy and plant medicine. One of the famed beauty secrets of the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, bathing in warm water infused with botanicals, salts and essential oils has been revered throughout time for radiant health and beauty. Ancient cultures knew the benefits of bathing to be vast — relieving pain, improving circulation, strengthening immunity, deepening relaxation and inspiring romance.

Celebrating plant medicine, Ayurveda reminds us how to use the gifts from the Earth to restore our balance and vitality. Inspired by combining this ancient wisdom with modern intuitive alchemy, Moon Bath invites you to tune in to the rhythms of nature with earth integrated bathing ritual products that include handcrafted Botanical Bath Teas, Face Mask and Mist, Infused Salt and Sacred Smoke aromatherapy.

BATHING GUIDE

Moon Bath’s Lunar Blends are intentionally crafted Botanical Bath Teas that enhance your connection to the energy of the moon. All of the Lunar Blends promote healthy skin, healing and relaxation — but to receive the most potent energetic benefits, we encourage you to bathe weekly with the Bath Tea that corresponds to the current phase of the moon. The lunar cycle has four distinct moon phases:

  • The New Moon phase is the week during which the moon is invisible or appears as a slender crescent, the sky is dark and the stars shine bright.

  • The Waxing Moon phase is the week in which the New Moon builds toward the Full Moon, and more of the moon is visible each night.

  • The Full Moon phase is the week during which the moon is the most visible, the time in which the moon appears as a bright, round circle in the sky.

  • The Waning Moon phase is the week during which the Full Moon fades to the New Moon and less of the moon is visible each night.

HOW TO TAKE A MOON BATH

STEEP  —  The process of preparing your Botanical Bath Tea begins with filling and turning on your kettle. While the water is heating, pour the dry botanicals into a large 1 litre) French press*.

Add hot water to French press, cover and let the Bath Tea steep for 15-20 minutes. This process of steeping the botanicals — in just under boiling temp water — is imperative to extract the medicinal properties from the botanicals and receive the most potent healing benefits.

SOAK  —  Run your bath water, compress and pour the Botanical Bath Tea and Moon Bath’s Infused Sundance Sea Salt into your tub before you get in. Consider burning Sacred Smoke to clear the space. Slip into your Moon Bath and notice how your energy shifts as you submerge in the healing water. Allow your senses to awaken and your physical body to soften. Let the medicinal waters

remind you of the healing power of plants and the value of creating space to reconnect with yourself.

INTEGRATE  —  Before, during or after your ritual bath, do a mindfulness practice such as repeating an intention, gentle stretching, meditation or journaling.

*If you do not have a French press available, you can prepare your Botanical Bath Tea on the stovetop: bring 1 litre of water to a gentle simmer, turn off stove, add botanicals, stir and steep covered for 15-20 minutes. Strain into a pitcher or strain directly in your bath water.

By treating yourself to a weekly Moon Bath, you are not only cleansing your physical body, you are cultivating clarity, vitality and balance for your whole being.

BEYOND BUSINESS AS USUAL

The following is taken from the MOON BATH website.

Supporting the restoration of balance for people and planet

Moon Bath holds a deep reverence for the plants, materials and the people involved in the production of our products. We strive to inspire the global community to re-engage with stewardship of our precious earth and communities by taking action to reduce our environmental footprint, uplift one another, and invest in regenerative practices.

We believe that social and environmental responsibility go hand in hand with running a business and that true success is attained with a triple bottom line approach — profit, people and planet. We seek to reduce our impact on the environment and to uplift our fellow human beings through facilitating sustainability, security and dignity throughout our supply chain. With this in mind, we seek to support women in business, create jobs for underrepresented populations and elevate social consciousness for the purpose of fostering more equality in the modern day workforce.

We understand that being connected to nature and to each other is essential to our individual health and collective well-being. Here are some ways we take action to reduce our negative environmental impact, regenerate nature and take a stand-up for social justice and equality.

Reducing our Footprint

  • We source sustainable ingredients and packaging

  • We use post-consumer waste packaging and shipping materials

  • We ensure that our products and packaging are either compostable or recyclable

  • We purchase monthly carbon offsets through the B Corporation TerraPass

Regenerating our Environment

  • We are members of United Plant Savers, whose mission is to protect native medicinal plants of the USA and Canada and their habitat, ensuring a renewable supply for generations to come.

  • We have regular company volunteer days at Delaney Community Farm, an organization which supports refugees through sustainable agriculture and community building.

  • We are committed to using only high-quality organic and sustainably wild harvested ingredients and strive to partner with producers who use regenerative practices

  • We are members of 1% For the Planet, an alliance of businesses financially committed to supporting a healthy planet. We donate 1% of total annual revenue to Delaney Community Farm

  • We share plant knowledge to inspire reverence for nature

Making a Positive Social Impact

  • We strive to support small artisans and producers

  • We employ and collaborate with underrepresented populations

  • We partner with businesses and organizations that are committed to protecting the environment and promoting social justice, and we encourage our partners to further their commitment

  • We offer Direct Impact Model (DIM) products that donate a percentage of gross sales to aligned non-profits, e.g. for every Nasty Woman sold, $2 is donated to Planned Parenthood.

  • We welcome and support all forms of gender identification
